Marriage Licenses

To schedule an appointment for obtaining a Marriage License, Civil Union, or Domestic Partnership, please call 201-460-3020 during our regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. For more information click on the following:

On the day of your appointment, please ensure you bring the following:

Completed License application ENGLISH SPANISH: Except do not sign the application. You must sign the application, under oath, in the presence of the issuing authority.
At least one applicant must be a resident of Rutherford (proof of residency is required).
A current Acceptable form of Identification for both applicants.
One witness aged 18 or older with a valid photo ID.
A $28.00 license fee, cash (exact), check, or money order, payable to the Rutherford Health Department.
Applicants must know their Social Security Number, if applicable.
Applicants must provide the date and location of any divorce, if applicable.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a mandatory 72-hour waiting period from the time the application is completed until the health department can issue the license to the couple. There is no 72-hour waiting period for a remarriage; however, you must bring a certified copy of your existing marriage. Please make sure to complete the application well ahead of your planned ceremony date.
