July 3rd Storm Clean-Up Update:
Friday night, Rutherford and the surrounding area experienced yet another brief but powerful storm. Unfortunately, this storm downed more trees than even the last powerful storm that happened on June 6th. At least 14 trees and numerous large branches are down on public streets and sidewalks, not accounting for private properties which were also heavily affected.
Although you may still see some streets closed due to downed power lines, I want you to know that PSE&G has been extremely responsive to our requests for help in Rutherford while they manage identical situations in towns throughout our area. I thank them for their prompt responses and assistance. I know waiting is frustrating but please be patient while PSE&G continues to dispatch crews throughout the area.
I personally want to thank Police Chief Russo, DPW Superintendent Seidler and Construction Official Salviano for their quick response. I’d also like to thank DPW Supervisor of Maintenance Joe Wronko and his team for managing the situation during a holiday weekend with limited staffing. Let’s also all take a moment to thank our all-volunteer Fire Department for always being on call in moments like these.
Assessment and clean-up will continue tomorrow morning in coordination with PSE&G. Please be mindful of this week’s weather forecast which is predicted to bring heavy rains. Please notify the Police Department if you observe any sewer grates clogged with debris which may create a particular hazard in heavy rain.
Sincerely,
Mayor Frank Nunziato
