The Board of Health is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community by licensing over 125 retail food establishments throughout the Borough. Additionally, we license vending machines, businesses selling electronic smoking devices, body art establishments, and food vendors at temporary events.

To safeguard public health, a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) is responsible for enforcing the regulations and conducting inspections related to environmental health. Their critical role includes preventing the spread of disease, promoting healthy environments, and educating the public on best practices for maintaining safe and sanitary living and working conditions.

Key responsibilities of the REHS include:

  • Retail Food Inspections & Complaints

  • Plan Reviews

  • Public Recreational Bathing Inspections

  • Childcare Center Inspections

  • Kennel, Pet Shop & Shelter/Pound Inspections

  • Youth Camp Inspections

  • Tanning & Body Art Inspections

The REHS also investigates public health nuisance complaints, elevated childhood blood lead levels, foodborne illness investigations, Smoke-Free Air Act violations, and animal bite reports.
